PhD Programs

Having a Master's degree is a prior requirement that a student needs to fulfill before applying for a PhD course in Italy. The students who have a foreign qualification that is not officially recognized by the Italian educational institutions need to attach a translation in English of the same degree certificate with the exams and the marks obtained which needs to be signed by the students themselves. This will allow the Scientific Board to declare the equivalence valid for the purpose of selection of the students for the course. The following are the Doctorate Degree courses available for students in Italy:

1. Ph.D in Business Administration: A Ph.D in Business Administration intends to train brilliant researchers in the field of business management. Apart from the academic studies, the students also get an opportunity to attend various seminars that are held by some of the internationally renowned scholars. Students also need to present their work at these conferences and seminar and spend a minimum research period of atleast 6 months in any foreign academic institution. The Ph.D program in Business Administration is a 3 year program and it is organized by the Department of Management in co-operation with the University LUISS Guido Carli of Rome and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. 

Before applying for a Ph.D in Business Administration, the student must have a Master's degree in the field of Business Administration. There are various courses that are offered under this course, namely:
  • Organizational theory
  • Business strategy
  • Research methods
  • Social networking analysis
  • Marketing, innovation management.
  • Statistics
  • Economics
2. Ph.D in Economics: The Ph.D program in Economics is for those students who have an active interest in research which is very rigorous and very important for economics, quantitative methods or business studies. The admissions for the Ph.D course in Economics and Organizations is based on the student's curriculum, research interests and the reference letters. The student needs to provide three reference letters before he/she can get admission for this Ph.D course. The Ph.D in Economics contains the following three programs
  • Economics and Organization (DEO)
  • Economics (DEC)
  • Business (DEA)
3. PhD in Medical Nanotechnology: The main aim of this course is to train the students so that they will be able to develop some diagnostic and therapeutic methods and solutions, based on nanotechnology. The students taking up this course will play a crucial role in various research and management positions in various academic research centres, in clinical centres of excellence and in bio and nanotechnological industries. Apart from the course study, there are regular scientific seminars that a student needs to attend. The course is taught in English. There are various research topics available, which are as follows:
  • Cell Arrays
  • Micro and Nanopatterning

  • Hybrid Bio/ Artificial Interfaces

4. PhD in Physics: The length of the PhD program in Physics is three years and is taught in both Italian and English. The PhD course in Physics aims to provide knowledge about some advanced topics of physics in the students. The length of the PhD course in Physics is three years. Before applying for the PhD course in physics, the student must have a Master's degree in physics. The following are the scientific areas in which the PhD course in physics is provided:
  • Experimental Physics
  • Theoretical Physics, mathematical methods and models
  • Physics of Matter
  • Nuclear and Sub nuclear physics
  • Applied physics
  • Teaching and history of physics
5. Ph.D in Economics and Management
The Ph.D course in Economics and Management is provided by the Doctoral School of Economics and Management. The research and 
training is offered in the fields of decision sciences, organizational behaviour, human and natural resource management and behavioural and experimental economics. This program is specifically built upon four fields of specializations, namely:
  • Behavioural Economics
  • Behavioural Studies in Management and Organization
  • Sustainable Tourism Management
  • International Economics.
The coursework initially consists of 15 papers that a student needs to clear. The students of the PhD program in Economics and Management follow a common curriculum during the first two terms and specialized courses during their third term. While the first year of study involves studying a core curriculum, the second and third year of study involves seminar participations, tutorials and various dissertations. Furthermore, it is possible for a student to spend up to one year working at a research centre in Italy. The language of the doctoral program is English and is taught by members who have experience in teaching multi-national students.
